General Statement on Privacy

The American Legion, Paul Herrick Post 21, Kenosha, WI will never request personal information from public facing internet platforms such as this website or facebook.

The ONLY time we will require personal information is for membership, and that will be limited to the fields on the membership application form.  We consider even this data to be between the American Legion and yourself and we will never provide it to anyone unless it is specifically for membership.

We will only use your email address, local address, and/or phone number to contact you for American Legion business. We will NEVER give contact information to anyone outside of the American Legion for any reason without your specific approval. For example, if we are trying to get you help with the Veterans Service Office, we will ask you if it is alright to give them your contact information BEFORE we give it to them.

You can avoid us asking you for membership data by maintaining it yourself via myLegion.org.  For example we may call you about your email address if we believe we are having trouble contacting you, but your email address is something you can fix yourself in the myLegion database.

We highly recommend that you do not reply to requests for personal information from anyone unless you are completely confident they will use it in a way you would expect.  Most Business WILL NOT ASK FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION over the phone or through email.  It’s simply not a safe way to communicate.

WE WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, YOUR CREDIT CARD, OR YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION.  We do not need it for anything.  Be very wary of such requests and report them to Post 21 leadership and/or local authorities.

When you show us a COPY of your DD-214 for membership qualification, please cover the SSN field. (Your original should always stay in a safe place)

If you have any questions about information security, a good place to start is the Post Adjutant.  The email address is adjutant@alpost21.com and he or she will point you in the right direction.
